Sabriel (Abhorsen Trilogy, Bk. 1)

Sabriel - Garth Nix Before reading:I recently discovered that one of my dear friends is actually related to the author of Sabriel, so thought I'd better read it :)After reading:I loved the mix of old and new - cars and electricity on one side vs. magic and creatures of death on the other. The story itself I thought was well-written and engaging. I wasn't quite as swept up in it as I had expected to be (thus the 4 star rating rather than 5 stars), but it did get increasingly more difficult to put down as the plot progressed. I was also very thankful to see that it actually had a proper ending, rather than leaving the reader with the cliff-hangers otherwise so common in fantasy series. And I loved Mogget - kept picturing him as Salem (of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"), but that actually seemed to fit his personality quite well, so I didn't try to stop myself.
